You are invited to join the newest book group at the Gleason Library: Books About Books.

Some books are written in direct response to other books, some books are written as homages to other books, some books are written to explain the contemporary events that might have inspired events in a book, and some books are written to explain an author’s autobiographical influences on their books.  This book group is going to read noteworthy books and we will read the books they have inspired.

The group will meet the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Hollis room from 7pm-8pm. 

Each month we will read a book and discuss it.  The following month we will read a book that is about the first book and discuss the two together.

The first meeting will be on Wednesday February 22nd at 7pm and we will be discussing The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie. 

The Second Meeting will be held on Wednesday March 22nd and we will be discussing The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict and The Murder of Roger Ackroyd based on the new revelations about Agatha Christie that we will learn from Benedict’s book.  

Here are other examples of books about books that we can consider reading for future meetings: Howard’s End by E.M Forester and On Beauty by Zadie Smith; 1984 by George Orwell and Orwell’s Roses by Rebecca Solnit; or Wonder Woman: The War Years by Charles Moulton and The Secret History of Wonder Woman by Jill Lepore.   

Come read and discuss books and the books written about them.  Bring your ideas for pairs of books we could read.
