First Connections is placing a StoryWalk® of the picture book The Ugly Vegetables by Grace Lin for families to share from June 19 to July 2 on the trail behind Gleason Library, 22 Bedford Road, Carlisle Center. This is a true story of Grace's experience helping her mother grow unique vegetables used in making a delicious soup that the whole neighborhood can't resist! At the end of the StoryWalk®, families can take home the soup recipe, a coloring page from the book, and a list of other children's picture books with Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander characters or themes. There will also be a QR code to access a new list of "Anti-Racism Resources for Caregivers and Children," compiled by First Connections. This document includes activities to do with your children as well as online and local resources for supporting parents' efforts to talk with their young children about race and diversity in our communities and the world.

This StoryWalk® is a collaboration between First Connections, COAR (Communities Organizing Against Racism - Concord-Carlisle-Boston), and the Gleason Public Library. If you have any questions, please contact us at childrens@gleasonlibrary.org.

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ms. Ferguson.
