Meet Pamela Gardener, on-air meteorologist for NBC10Boston/NECN! We'll be discussing how Pamela got to where she is, what it takes to be a weather person in New England, esp as a Woman in STEM, and the current science around weather forecasting! Bring your questions, this is sure to be a fascinating and enlightening conversation!

Pamela Gardner joined NBC10 Boston and NECN in December of 2018, and broadcasts weekdays on NBC at 6am, 11am, noon, and on NECN 7-9am.

Gardner previously worked at WBZ-TV and appeared on several national broadcasts including CBS Evening News. Prior to that, she worked at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was the weekend evening meteorologist. Before that, she was at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute, Indiana as the weekday morning meteorologist, having started there as the weekend meteorologist immediately after college.

She began her career at WIPB-TV in Muncie, Indiana, and while there she was nominated for her first professional regional Emmy Award in college. She later was nominated for several New England Emmys, including for Weather-Anchor.

Gardner received her bachelor’s degree in telecommunications with a minor in meteorology from Ball State University and earned her Broadcast Meteorologist Certificate from Mississippi State University.  Later she earned her Seal of Approval from the National Weather Association in 2016 and continues education to keep that seal. Her expertise in severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, eventually led her to Norman, Oklahoma.  In 2017 she was selected as the first female and first New England representative for research in the Hazardous Weather Testbed, FACETs (Forecasting a Continuum of Environmental Threats). This program supported the National Weather Service with rolling out a new probability-based tornado and severe thunderstorm warning system.  She was invited back to the National Weather Service in 2018 to experiment with the GOES-R satellite technology for severe weather warnings. She has traveled all across the Midwest and New England to share her love of forecasting with kids in school.

She enjoys the challenge of forecasting weather and decided to trade in the severe storms and tornadoes of the Midwest to experience the nor’easters of New England. She is thrilled to call Boston home, and when not at work, you can find Pamela, her husband, their young son, and their senior puggle, Champ Dogg, exploring everything New England has to offer... including anything sports or food related.  Her perfect day in New England is enjoying a hot summer day at the beach on the South Shore, or skimming along the water on her waverunner.
